Improv Game of the Day: Quoth the Raven

1-4 players. Player One takes a copy of the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe and “plays” it, using the rhythms of the lines.

Pitches are chosen from the minor pentatonic scale (1 b3 4 5 b7: in C: C Eb F G Bb) or Blues scale (1 b3 4 #4 5 b7).

Additional players provide an accompaniment closely related to what Player One does.

Variation: Trade off the solo role a stanza at a time. The “Quoth the raven, Nevermore” line could act as a refrain and be played by all.
